About the event
The Open Championship - golf's original major, first played in 1860 - is the oldest championship in the sport and the only major held outside the United States. Contested on a rota of seaside links courses in Britain and Ireland, it is defined by wind, rain, pot bunkers and the famous Claret Jug. Harry Vardon's six titles are the record.
