History
Partition made the region East Bengal, the eastern wing of Pakistan.
East Bengal was renamed East Pakistan under a new constitution.
Independence was proclaimed on 26 March as the Pakistani crackdown began.
The Mujibnagar government was proclaimed and the liberation war against Pakistan began.
The Liberation War ended on 16 December with the Pakistani surrender in Dhaka.
The current constitution came into force, setting the basic framework for today's Bangladesh.
