About the event

The US Open is the loud, late-summer finale of the Grand Slam season, played on hard courts in Flushing Meadows, Queens. First held in 1881, it is famous for floodlit night sessions in Arthur Ashe Stadium — the largest tennis arena in the world, seating nearly 24,000. It was the first major to use tie-breaks and to pay equal prize money to men and women. In the Open Era, five men's singles titles (Connors, Sampras, Federer) and six women's (Serena Williams, Chris Evert) are the tournament records. The 2026 Open runs 23 August – 12 September.
