About FIFA World Cup
The FIFA World Cup is the world's most-watched sporting event — football's championship of nations, contested every four years since Uruguay hosted and won the first tournament in 1930. Only eight countries have ever lifted the trophy, and Brazil lead the way with five. The 2030 edition breaks the mould: to mark the competition's centenary it is co-hosted by Morocco, Spain and Portugal across Africa and Europe, while three opening matches return to South America — Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay — where the very first final was played in 1930. Forty-eight teams contest 104 matches over roughly six weeks, and Spain arrive as holders after winning the 2026 final.
The centenary World Cup runs 8 June – 21 July 2030 and is the first ever spread across three continents and three confederations. The main tournament — 101 of the 104 matches — is staged in Morocco, Spain and Portugal, with three symbolic opening matches in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay to honour the 1930 original. Spain defend the title they won in 2026.
