What it is
World music is a broad discovery label rather than one single style. On OneSliders it is useful when the event is rooted in a place, language, instrument tradition or cross-cultural festival programme.

World Music
Regional sounds, cross-cultural festivals and place-based music.
Where it comes from
The label became common in the late twentieth century music industry, but the music itself is older and more local: griot traditions, devotional singing, island music, folk instruments, dance rhythms and hybrid city scenes.
