About the event

The Gnaoua Festival celebrates Gnaoua music, the spiritual and trance-inducing tradition brought to Morocco by enslaved West Africans and preserved by the country's Gnaoua brotherhoods. Staged across the walled Atlantic port city of Essaouira since 1998, it pairs Gnaoua masters with jazz, blues and world-music artists in fusion sets, reflecting Essaouira's own history as a multicultural trading port.
