About the event
The Cannes Film Festival is the most prestigious event in world cinema, held each May on the French Riviera. Its top prize, the Palme d'Or, can define a director's career, and the red carpet at the Palais des Festivals is the film world's most famous. Cannes is invitation-only and fiercely selective.

The festival is not a public ticketed event: screenings in the Palais are for accredited industry and press. The routes open to a visitor are the free beachfront Cinema de la Plage screenings and the Cinephiles accreditation for film lovers, which is applied for in advance and limited in number.
