Yoga

A UN-recognised day every 21 June, timed to the summer solstice.

International Day of Yoga is observed every 21 June, established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014 after a proposal from India and first marked in 2015 with a mass outdoor session in New Delhi. The date was chosen because it falls on the summer solstice, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Beyond the UN-recognised day itself, yoga studios, parks and wellness venues worldwide run their own sessions around the same week, extending a single symbolic date into a broader annual moment for the practice. The New Delhi event has drawn some of the largest recorded mass-yoga gatherings, with tens of thousands of participants practising in unison at a single outdoor venue.
