About this event

The WTA Finals close the women's tennis season, bringing together the eight highest-ranked singles players and the eight leading doubles teams from the year's results. It is the hardest field to qualify for in the sport, since entry is earned by ranking points accumulated over the whole season rather than by a draw. The format opens with two round-robin groups, which guarantees every qualifier at least three matches and means a player can lose and still advance, before semi-finals and a final decide the title. The event dates to 1972 and Martina Navratilova holds the record with eight singles titles. It has moved host cities repeatedly over its history, from New York and Los Angeles through Madrid, Istanbul, Singapore and Shenzhen, and is currently staged in Riyadh under a multi-year agreement with the Saudi federation. The 2026 edition is scheduled from 1 to 8 November in Saudi Arabia.
