The Copa Libertadores Final decides South America's premier club football competition, the continental equivalent of the UEFA Champions League and the tournament that carries the deepest club rivalries in the region. It has been contested since 1960 under CONMEBOL, and the winner earns South America's place in the intercontinental club competition. Until 2018 the final was played over two legs, home and away, which produced some of the most hostile nights in the sport; since 2019 it has been decided by a single match at a neutral venue announced in advance, a change made partly for security and partly to sell the fixture as a global occasion. Independiente of Argentina hold the record with seven titles, ahead of Boca Juniors with six, and Brazilian clubs have dominated recent editions. The atmosphere remains the draw — full-stadium choreography and continuous singing from both ends. The next final is scheduled for 28 November 2026.
