About Eurovision Song Contest
The Eurovision Song Contest is the European Broadcasting Union's annual live music competition, first staged in Lugano in 1956 with seven countries. What began as a television experiment now turns national selections, original songs, jury votes and public voting into one shared week of semi-finals and a grand final. Its scale is measurable: the 2026 edition was the 70th Contest, reached 131 million people across 35 TV markets, and followed a 2025 edition that reached 166 million. For a viewer, that means a reliable live-TV ritual with a new cast every year; for a traveller, it means a temporary city-wide programme built around the arena, delegations and fans.
Bulgaria will host the 71st Eurovision Song Contest in 2027 after DARA won the 2026 Contest for the country with Bangaranga - Bulgaria's first victory. The host city and venue have not yet been confirmed, so the useful planning fact today is the country, not an invented address. The 2027 edition is also the first time Bulgaria stages the senior Contest, making the host selection itself part of the story for on-site fans and city visitors.
