Music topic

Hard Rock

Louder riffs, heavier drums and arena-scale power.

Topic

What it is

Hard rock is rock with more weight: bigger riffs, louder amplifiers, harder drums and vocal delivery built to cut through a crowd. It sits between classic rock and metal without needing to become extreme.

History

Where it comes from

Hard rock took shape in the late 1960s and 1970s as blues rock and psychedelic rock became heavier. Arena tours, guitar heroes and festival stages turned the sound into a durable live format.
