Stroopwafel
Dutch caramel waffle cookies.
Ingredients
- Waffle dough
- Butter
- Brown sugar
- Syrup
- Cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
How to make it
- Cook thin waffles in a waffle iron. Prepare this first and keep the heat moderate; rushing the first stage usually gives uneven texture later.
- Split while warm if thick enough. Continue gently and check texture rather than only the clock; the dish is ready when the main ingredient is tender and well seasoned.
- Simmer syrup, sugar, butter and cinnamon. Start over medium-high heat until the water or broth is bubbling, then lower to medium or medium-low and cook gently for 10-25 minutes, depending on size, until tender but not falling apart.
- Sandwich caramel between waffle halves. Continue gently and check texture rather than only the clock; the dish is ready when the main ingredient is tender and well seasoned.
