About the event
Hermanus Whale Festival celebrates the southern right whales that visit South Africa’s Walker Bay coast during their breeding season. The town is known for land-based whale watching from its cliff paths, and the festival pairs that setting with environmental education, music, food and local crafts. The 2026 event is scheduled for 24–27 September, during the part of the season when whales are commonly visible from shore.
