Estonian Song and Dance Celebration 2028

The next celebration spreads over two weekends in July 2028: the XXII General Dance Celebration and the XIV Youth Dance Celebration on 1 and 2 July, then the XXIX Song Celebration and the XIV Youth Song Celebration on 8 and 9 July at the Song Festival Grounds. The youth and all-ages festivals have been merged into one two-week event, a change the organisers trace back to the pandemic years.

More than 41,000 performers took part in 2025, and 2028 is the first celebration to merge the youth and all-ages festivals into a single two-week event: dance on 1 and 2 July, song on 8 and 9 July. The tradition is on the UNESCO list, and the Song Festival Grounds were built for exactly this - a choir of tens of thousands facing a crowd of about the same size.

The first weekend belongs to the dancers at Kalev Stadium - 10,938 of them in 2025 - in patterned mass choreographies. The second weekend moves to the Song Festival Grounds, where the combined choirs sing from the shell-shaped stage, closing with the songs the whole audience joins. Between them run the procession through Tallinn and the smaller concerts.
