About the event
Reveillon on Copacabana beach is one of the largest New Year gatherings on earth, with crowds dressed in white - a colour associated with peace and with offerings to Yemanja, the sea goddess of Afro-Brazilian tradition. Fireworks are fired from barges moored offshore so the display reads along the whole curve of the beach.
