About the event
Calabar Carnival was launched by Cross River State in 2004 and builds through December to a large street parade in the state capital. The competition is organised around carnival bands whose costumes, choreography and themed presentations turn the route into the festival’s main spectacle. It is commonly promoted as Africa’s biggest street party, but the practical trip is to Calabar itself rather than to a single enclosed venue.
