About this day

Wildfire Community Preparedness Day is an annual campaign that helps neighbourhoods reduce the risk that a wildfire will reach homes and shared spaces. The work is practical: clear combustible material close to buildings, plan evacuation routes, support local fire services and learn how the home ignition zone works. It is not a day for spectacle or a single national ceremony. Its value comes from communities doing small, documented tasks before the hottest and driest part of the fire season. The campaign is coordinated in North America, but the preparation principles are useful wherever homes meet flammable vegetation.

How to take part

Treat the day as a readiness check, not a celebration:

  • Review local wildfire guidance from your fire, emergency or land-management authority.
  • Clear flammable material where local rules recommend it and it is safe to do so.
  • Check evacuation routes, contact lists, alerts and essential supplies.
  • Talk with neighbours or community groups about shared risks and who may need help.
