Bathing and thermal traditions from Rome to Japan, plus one shared June awareness day.
Global Wellness Day began in Turkey in 2012 as a single day dedicated to raising awareness of healthy living, and has since spread to spa and wellness venues in more than 100 countries each June. Spa culture itself draws on much older traditions — Roman and Ottoman bathing rituals, Nordic sauna practice, Japanese onsen — that modern spas package into treatments, thermal circuits and guided programmes. The awareness day gives the industry a single annual date to run open days, discounted treatments and public wellness activities alongside its everyday business. Participating venues range from destination thermal resorts to neighbourhood day spas, all using the same date to introduce visitors to treatments they might not otherwise try.
