Reykjavik Marathon – Saemundargata to Geirsgata
About the event

The Islandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon is run through the capital on a Saturday in late August, with four distances starting together: the marathon, the half marathon, a 10 km and a fun run. The start is on Saemundargata by the University of Iceland and the finish area is on Geirsgata by the old harbour. It is the largest charity fundraiser in Iceland - every entrant can collect donations for a cause of their own choosing - and in recent years the race has shared its Saturday with Menningarnott, the city's Culture Night.

Four distances start together on Saemundargata by the University of Iceland and finish on Geirsgata by the old harbour, so the marathon, the half, the 10 km and the fun run share one start area and one finish line. About 1,500 runners take the marathon each year and around 7,000 the 10 km, which makes the shorter race the crowded one. It is also the largest charity fundraiser in Iceland: every entrant can collect donations for a cause of their own choosing.

Two ticket types are sold for each distance. The general entry covers the bib, chip timing and a finisher medal; the competition entry adds prize eligibility and a slightly earlier start. Marathon entry is 17,000 kr in the early-bird window to 23 April, 21,240 kr from 24 April to 19 August and 25,490 kr at the expo, with the 10 km from 8,560 kr and reduced rates for ages 12 to 17. Runners with a disability can request one accompanying guide free of charge.
