About the event
Copa America, first contested in 1916, is the oldest continental international football championship in the world, played between CONMEBOL's South American national teams. Guest nations from outside the confederation have occasionally been invited to fill out the field, and recent editions have been staged jointly with CONCACAF competition on US soil.
