About this event

The WNBA Finals are the championship series of the Women's National Basketball Association, the top professional women's basketball league in the United States. The league was founded in 1996 and played its first season in 1997, and its opening era was dominated by the Houston Comets, who won the first four championships behind Cynthia Cooper, Sheryl Swoopes and Tina Thompson. Later dynasties formed around the Seattle Storm and Minnesota Lynx. The finals are contested by the winners of each conference's play-off bracket, and the league expanded the series from best-of-five to best-of-seven for the 2025 season, giving the format the same length as the men's equivalent. Games alternate between the two finalists' home arenas, which is why the venue cannot be fixed in advance: it depends entirely on which teams qualify and which holds the better regular-season record. The 2026 series is scheduled between 2 and 16 October, with the host arenas to follow the play-offs.
