Caribbean Series

The Caribbean Series is the winter championship of Latin American baseball, contested by the club champions of the region's winter leagues rather than by national teams. It was first played in Havana in 1949, paused through the 1960s and revived in 1970, and is organised by the Confederación de Béisbol Profesional del Caribe. The core entrants are the league winners from the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Venezuela, with Panama, Nicaragua, Curaçao and Cuba appearing in expanded modern editions. The format opens with a round-robin group before a semi-final and final decide the title, compressing a full championship into roughly a week. Dominican clubs have been the most successful over the tournament's history. For supporters the draw is as much the atmosphere as the baseball: brass bands, merengue and salsa between innings, and travelling fan groups that turn the host stadium into a partisan carnival. The 2027 edition is scheduled for 30 January to 6 February in Mexico.
