About the event
Monarch butterflies travel thousands of kilometres from Canada and the United States to a handful of oyamel fir forests in the mountains of central Mexico, clustering so densely that branches bend under them. No individual butterfly completes the round trip; the return north is finished by later generations. The wintering sites are a UNESCO biosphere reserve.
