About the event
Sakura season moves as a front, opening in the subtropical south and travelling north over several weeks, which is why the forecast of the blossom line is followed closely. Hanami - viewing parties held beneath the trees - is a centuries-old practice, and the bloom itself lasts only about a week in any one place.
