About the event
Ten days in Riga, 30 June to 9 July 2028: the XXVIII General Latvian Song Festival and the XVIII Dance Festival, confirmed by the government in 2026. Latvian law fixes the cycle at once every five years. The venues are not settled yet - the culture ministry ties that decision to the artistic concept competitions, whose results were due in the third quarter of 2026.
Ten days, once every five years - Latvian law fixes the cycle, and the government has set 30 June to 9 July 2028 for the XXVIII Song Festival and the XVIII Dance Festival. It is the Latvian half of a tradition shared with Estonia and Lithuania and listed by UNESCO, and the closing night of massed choirs is what people travel for.
The ten days build from smaller concerts and the procession through Riga to the dance performances and then the closing choir concert. Where each part is held is not settled: the culture ministry ties the venue decision to the artistic concept design competitions, whose results were due in the third quarter of 2026.
