About the event
Inti Raymi, the Inca festival of the sun, marks the winter solstice in the southern hemisphere. Suppressed under Spanish rule, it was revived in 1944 as a large-scale re-enactment: hundreds of costumed performers move from the Qorikancha temple through the Plaza de Armas to the stone ramparts of Sacsayhuaman above Cusco.
