Overview

What World Ranger Day is

World Ranger Day is the annual July 31 observance led by the International Ranger Federation to remember rangers killed or injured in the line of duty and to celebrate the people protecting natural and cultural heritage.

HistoryRemembrance and recognition

World Ranger Day began as an International Ranger Federation initiative and is promoted with The Thin Green Line. It remembers rangers killed or injured in service and gives ranger associations, parks, agencies and communities one shared date to publish tributes, education materials and local activities.

FormatNo single host city

There is no single venue, ticketed gate or winner. Ranger associations, protected-area agencies and conservation groups use the day for memorials, public talks, ranger stories, school activities, fundraising and campaign toolkits. In 2026 the IRF is framing the day around rangers working through climate extremes, biodiversity loss, human-wildlife conflict and wildlife crime.

SupportUse official campaign materials

Follow IRF or a named local ranger association for campaign resources and public activities.
